Swiss Film Awards 2021: Digitally Live!
Federal Office of Culture

A bold new concept put the spotlight on the 2021 Swiss Film Prize nominees and their films, creating excitement and surprises across multiple channels leading up to the highly anticipated presentation of the prestigious «Quartz» trophies.
Nominees and Content Creation Take Center Stage
The annual awarding of the «Quartz» trophies, honoring the best Swiss films and filmmakers in 14 categories, is a major event in the Swiss film industry. As the lead agency for the Swiss Film Awards, standing ovation was responsible for every aspect of the event, from reimagining the concept to overseeing the organization, execution and content creation. The idea of focusing on the nominees, their films, and the personal stories behind the creators had already won over the Federal Office of Culture in 2019.

A Successful Pivot
The original plan was to hold the event with a live audience. However, when the pandemic made an in-person gathering impossible, the standing ovation team completely redesigned the event as a fully digital experience. On Friday, March 26, 2021, the 24th Swiss Film Awards was broadcast live from the RTS studios in Geneva. Even in this virtual format, the ceremony honored the best in Swiss filmmaking and delivered a memorable experience that won over the hearts of the audience.
The films and the personal stories behind the filmmakers were at the heart of the event. The new content creation strategy delivered engaging content, insights and behind-the-scenes stories about the nominees, all designed to be easily digestible for social media.
Two different spaces, two distinct experiences. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the event struck the perfect balance between a live, in-the-moment feel and a sophisticated digital experience. The ceremony was broadcast live from RTS studios, hosted by Mireille Jaton, with nominees participating virtually.
Great content needs to be both engaging and easy to find. This year, the entire event was supported by comprehensive communication across the community platform www.quartz.ch and the social media channels @prixducinemasuisse.
The Baldenweg siblings composed a new, powerful soundtrack for the Swiss Film Awards, creating a timeless musical signature that emotionally connects audiences to the films and their creators.
Project Focus: Brand Identity and Communication
Since 2021, the new screen and studio design has characterized the visual identity of the Swiss Film Awards. Compelling editorial content, both before and during the event, drew attention to the ceremony. Text and video productions kept film enthusiasts engaged via the event platform and social media channels. A live ticker highlighted key moments in real time. The event successfully struck a balance between appealing to the cultural elite, loyal film fans and the next generation.

The Goal? Greater Visibility and Impact
The Swiss Film Awards are a project of the Federal Office of Culture, produced in partnership with SRG SSR and the «Quartz» Association of Geneva and Zurich, and organized in collaboration with Swiss Films, the Swiss Film Academy and the Solothurn Film Festival.
Film Culture Meets the Next Generation
